Swimming lessonsOur students benefit from a superb range of facilities and an enhanced sporting curriculum where they can take part in a wide variety of sports and pursue some good sporting qualifications.

One aspect of being a Specialist Sports College is the enhanced Physical Education curriculum where pupils are offered a selection of different qualifications ranging from the BTEC First Diploma in Sport through to Level 1 National Governing Body awards.

At key stage 3 all pupils experience a wide and varied curriculum focusing on developing the key principles needed to be successful in leading a healthy and active lifestyle.

At key stage 4 pupils can undertake a range of sporting qualifications and have the opportunity to excel at a higher level.

The qualifications and courses at key stage 4 include:

  • Btec Diploma (4 GCSE's)
  • Btec Certificate (2GCSE's)
  • Sports Leaders
  • GCSE PE
  • Dance Leaders

The sports on offer at Denbigh include football, tennis, hockey, swimming, athletics, badminton, netball, cricket, basketball and trampolining. There are also dance lessons and excellent fitness opportunities.

CricketThere is also an extensive range of extra-curricular activities that are open to pupils of all abilities.

The sports college employs a sports and community development officer and part-time coaches which extends the range of out-of-hours activities available to students as well as securing improved levels of health and fitness for the school.

There are teams in many sports and the school has an excellent reputation for the quality and standard of the teams that compete in both national and local competitions.

Alongside this the school positively encourages inter-form competitions within year groups. These competitions take place in most sports and offer the chance for all pupils to participate in at least one sport.
