As a specialist sports college our students benefit from a superb range of facilities and an enhanced sporting curriculum where they can take part in a wide variety of sports and pursue a number of good sporting qualifications.
Our sports college status also helps to raise the attainment of all of our students across the curriculum by bringing together learning from all subjects, so that teaching and learning is driven across the school, enabling students to make excellent progress and maintain outstanding achievement. The cross-curricular links between PE and other subjects such as English, maths and science have resulted in some innovative teaching and learning practices that have had a big impact on student achievement in these areas.
The sports college employs a sports and community development officer and part-time coaches, which extends the range of out-of-hours activities available to students as well as securing improved levels of health and fitness for the school and the wider community. Our partnerships within the local community are also an extremely important part of our work with people of all ages making good use of our facilities in the evenings and at weekends. We also host a wide range of holiday activities for young people of all ages.
As a High Performing Specialist School (HPSS) Denbigh has added Leadership' as a second specialism which allows us to assist partner schools in the development of their own leadership capabilities. As part of this we continue to improve the quality of teaching and learning not only for our own pupils and staff, but for other schools within the region.
As a Teaching School Designate we work with colleagues from primary and secondary schools who travel from as far away as London to deepen their understanding of teaching and learning at all levels.
Our contribution to the advancement of teaching and learning and system-wide improvement is widely regarded by local and national leaders in education.
