Secondary Transfer

The transition from year 6 to year 7

Each September the school offers the opportunity for all potential parents to attend the Open Evening, when the whole school is on display and all teachers are available for consultation.

At the end of year 6 the Head of year 7, a senior teacher and some of our students visit the Junior schools to give information and answer any questions that year 6 students may have about coming to Denbigh High School.

In addition, students are invited to Denbigh for Transition Day in June to get a flavour of what life will be like once they attend the school full time. Parents also are given the opportunity to talk and meet teachers at the Parental Interview Evening after the Transition Day in June.

Over the summer holidays there are summer schools running for invited pupils to attend: to learn and have fun.

Parents are sent Parent Information packs which include all the details, times and dates that are necessary.

How to support your child

It would be very helpful to go through the Parental Information Pack with your child, so that they begin to understand what the uniform will look like and what different events they could attend.

In advance of their school visit, discuss with your child what they might be looking forward to and what things they might be worried about. Encourage them to ask questions both during the year 6 school visits and on the Transition Day when they will meet their teachers.

Please discuss with teachers on your visit to the school, during the Parental Interview Evening any concerns you may have.
