Extended Learning

We have a comprehensive range of extra learning opportunities outside normal school hours that include:

  • opportunities to study extra subjects
  • a wide range of sporting opportunities including a summer sports programme
  • revision classes in examination years
  • booster classes for students who want to raise their grades
  • opportunities for independent learning and research in the school library and through our extensive network of ICT facilities
  • summer schools for students who are particularly gifted or those who need to improve their literacy skills
  • opportunities to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh programme.

As part of this extended school provision we are able to offer students the opportunity to extend their curriculum in ‘session 6’. This is where a student wishes to take a course which particularly interests them. A student may wish to take an extra language or take a course like art as an extra GCSE. Students usually attend one lesson a week between 3:45pm and 4:45pm. This offer is completely optional and individuals can discuss what they may wish to do with individual teachers.
