Denbigh pupils meet Katy Moran

23 June 2010
A group of twenty five lucky pupils got the chance to meet successful teen author Katy Moran. Katy has already published two books, Bloodline' and Bloodline Rising' and her latest offering Spirit Hunter is set to hit the shelves soon.
The Denbigh pupils all have a keen interest in reading, and were eager to meet this exciting young author. Mrs Northwood and Mr Wright who organised the trip accompanied the pupils down to the Luton Library. When the group met Katy at the Library they took part in different creative writing activities aimed to encourage the pupils to write for pleasure in their spare time.
Katy showed us a few writing techniques that she herself uses to stop herself from getting writers block'. One of them was an exercise where you write whatever comes into your mind, this means that your mind has a stimulus and can write on the actual subject required and ends up with a creative outcome.
J Lampard Year 8
"When Katy can't think of anything to write about a character she does a spider diagram to help her and does some exercises which we also did. This was very helpful and allowed us to continue our story with ease."

As well as improving their writing skills the students got the chance to ask Katy lots of questions about her books and what it is like to be an author. Katy's books are all set in medieval times and were coloured by her time at university studying archaeology.
Her first book Bloodline was inspired by a one thousand year old brooch her parents found in a cheap antique shop. All the pupils who attended found the session extremely enjoyable and with Katy's books soon becoming available in the school library, everyone is keen to read her new book Spirit Hunter' as soon as possible.
