Careers education information, advice and guidance
Denbigh high school offers a comprehensive careers and IAG programme that covers all years of the school and consists of a range of different information and support systems.
Denbigh also has an Information Advice and Guidance Manager who’s role is to oversee all of the careers programmes to make sure that each pupil has the advice and support that they need to make informed choices about their future.
Key stage 3 support
- Careers lessons delivered through ‘learning to learn’ lessons in year 7.
- Opportunities to visit a range of colleges and universities.
- Year 9 Careers Week delivers a whole week of lessons and events on careers.
- Year 9 options information evening for parents and pupils.
- A personal careers interview for every pupil in year 9 before options choices start.
- Careers lessons delivered twice a term through form time activities.
Key stage 4 support
- Extensive support and guidance through the process of college applications.
- Two weeks of work experience for all pupils at the start of year 11.
- Parent information evenings for target groups of pupils.
- Opportunities to visit a range of colleges and universities.
- A personal careers interview for every pupil in year 11 before college applications start.
- Careers lessons delivered twice a term through form time activities.
Additional support
- Denbigh’s careers week is an event that involves all subjects and year groups in the school. It consists of a number of events and programmes aimed at reminding all of our pupils about the importance of planning ahead for a good career in the future.
- Denbigh high has an extensive careers library with a wide range of information about future opportunities in work and education for our pupils.
- All pupils have access to the ‘Job Explorer Database’ which is an online programme with thousands of job profiles, full of information for pupils to access.
- A designated area for careers and guidance is being set up on our Realsmart system, so pupils can access details and links to useful information quickly and easily. Pupils can also access the Realsmart system from home.
- All pupils have access to the school’s IAG manager and to Connexions advisors at any time during their time at Denbigh, where they can ask for careers information or advice on future educational choices.
